NuGo Fan of the Month: Jo Hitz

About a year ago, Jo Hitz first tried NuGo bars when her local Sprouts had a sale on several protein bars. She bought one of each. “I had been searching high and low for yummy tasting bars that don’t have an off-putting texture,” explained Jo. When she tried NuGo Dark Mint Chocolate Chip, she was so amazed by how good it tasted that she immediately went back into the store and purchased one of each flavor.

Jo has been vegan for seven years. She has celiac disease and eats low FODMAP. Additionally, she has food allergies and is a picky eater. So finding a truly delicious protein bar that meets her needs was a huge accomplishment.

Her favorite bar is NuGo Dark Mint Chocolate Chip. Jo also loves NuGo Dark Coconut, Pretzel, and Chocolate Chip. She recently tried NuGo Slim Crunchy Peanut Butter and loved it too. Jo eats at least one NuGo bar per day. She always keeps a bar in her purse for emergencies.

Her husband occasionally eats NuGo bars, but “he knows I am very protective of them and might have to wrestle him if he eats my stash,” remarked Jo. She has also started to freeze them and chop them up to put in cookies.

“I love the texture. I love the flavors. I love they are gluten-free and don’t taste or feel gluten-free. I love that they fill me up and satisfy cravings. I adore everything about these bars,” she said.

Jo works as a Speech Language Pathologist in the public schools and also has private clients. She specializes in clients with autism. She eats half of a NuGo bar about an hour before lunch and the rest after school to help her get through numerous IEP meetings and long staff meetings.

After having seven knee surgeries, Jo had to give up golf and tennis, but is hoping to try again someday. She uses her home gym and does FITT training that her trainer recommended. She loves to walk with friends.

Jo is a die-hard animal lover. She has seven dogs and seven cats, and a very tolerant husband who allows her to rescue all these animals. Jo also adores rats, tortoises, hedgehogs, goats, ducks and moose. In addition to caring for many animals, she loves music and baking. She likes to “wow friends, family, and coworkers with gluten-free vegan creations.”
