Sticking to Your Bariatric New Year’s Resolutions

Sticking to Your Bariatric New Year’s Resolutions

It’s a known fact that most people that make a New Year’s Resolution will have already broken it within the first couple months of the year. Why? Partly because some resolutions aren’t very specific and partly because some resolutions are too restrictive or unattainable. Individuals who have had bariatric surgery aren’t immune to making resolutions, especially resolutions to lose weight. So, what are some ways to help you stick to your resolutions?

Be specific.

Have a clear idea of what you want to accomplish. “Get Healthy,” sounds great, but it probably means something entirely different to every person.

Break it into smaller, more manageable steps.

Don’t just say, “I’m going to lose 50 pounds.” Instead, try to figure out what you can do to get there. Examples might include, “I’m going to drink 64 oz. of water per day,” “I’m going to exercise for at least 20 minutes Monday-Friday,” and/or “I’m going to track how much protein I’m consuming daily to be sure I’m hitting my goal.”

Be realistic.

Don’t assume that 50 pounds is going to disappear within two weeks. It didn’t take two weeks to get there, so it won’t take two weeks to get rid of it either.

Eat protein for bariatric weight loss.

In terms of weight loss, another helpful tip is to not let yourself become overly hungry. When we get overly hungry, we also tend to overeat in response. One of the best ways to promote more satiety between meals is to eat enough protein. Protein foods are the most satiating foods, because they usually require more digestion in the stomach and are generally more filling.

Most individuals that have had bariatric surgery know that meeting your protein goal daily is one of the most important things you can do to set yourself up for success. One way to help you hit your protein goal is to consume a bariatric protein bar as a snack between meals. After bariatric surgery, the ability to consume enough protein at just three meals per day can be a real challenge. The best bariatric protein bars that NuGo offers is the Slim line. Therefore, NuGo Slim protein bars can be a quick and easy option, especially when you’re on the go, or haven’t had time to prepare a meal.
