NuGo Athlete of the Month: Christine Warren

Christine Warren is an amateur triathlete, living and training as a vegan in Orange County, CA. In 2016, she broke both her ankles 10 months apart. This motivated her to not take her body for granted anymore and to “get fit.” “I loved running instantly but also had loved swimming as a kid and wanted to get back into it, and I also wanted a bigger challenge,” she said. After about a year of running, she figured she would learn how to ride a bike and do triathlons. Her first triathlon was in September 2018. Her experience so far in triathlon has truly been life-changing.

“It has brought me a new sense of confidence and helped me find myself during a time when I was really struggling personally. I love the community of people I have met and continue to meet many amazing and inspiring people in the triathlon world. Putting the work in to reach my goals helps me stay honest and humble in both my training and outside of triathlon.”

She qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Nice, France at only her second 70.3 race. Her current goal is to win her age group at an Ironman 70.3 and to qualify again for 2020 Worlds.

Her favorite NuGo line is NuGo Dark. Christine loves chocolate covered pretzels so the first bar she tried was NuGo Dark Chocolate Pretzel, and she could not believe it tasted so good. It is still her favorite! She has been eating NuGo Dark for over two years, which is as long as she has been vegan. As she was transitioning to being vegan, she started realizing that dairy was in so many things. It was hard to find bars that she could eat, especially ones that actually tasted good and weren’t filled with a bunch of garbage.

“I like NuGo because they are so satisfying after a workout when not a lot of other bars are. The flavor and texture are great. It also provides a good balance of carbs, protein, and sugar. I love to eat them right after a hard workout at the gym or a tough run, and I like take them along to fuel my long bike rides on the weekends.”

Outside of being a triathlete, Christine is a professional classical musician. She plays the oboe and works as a freelance musician in the greater LA area playing for orchestra, theater, musicals, and film/TV. She also loves horseback riding, cooking vegan food, snorkeling, and traveling with her husband. Follow her on Instagram and her website.
