NuGo Athlete of the Month: Laura Dennis-Guilmette

Laura Dennis-Guilmette has been a fan of professional wrestling ever since her dad introduced her to Hulk Hogan when she was three. Now, at the age of 30 she is a Professional wrestler named Allie with Impact Wrestling. Her greatest achievement was signing a contract with Impact Wrestling. She wasn’t sure if all the work she put in over the last 13 years was going to amount to anything. So, to sign a contact with a major company felt like a huge accomplishment. “It felt like all of those years of blood, sweat and tears finally meant something,” said Laura.

Some of Laura’s happiest childhood memories are of watching wrestling with her dad. Sadly, he passed away suddenly when she was 12. The very last thing she did with him was watch a wrestling pay-per-view so wrestling has a very special place in her heart. She found a wrestling school on her 18th birthday and hasn’t looked back since.

In September 2015, Laura suffered a severely broken collarbone during a match. She somehow managed to finish the match and was taken straight to the ER in New Jersey. It was so badly broken that she needed surgery and had a titanium plate and seven screws installed to hold it together. This was her first major injury in 12 years, and she was nervous to come back. She is happy to say that she pulled herself out of the negative head space. She made her return to the ring in February 2016 and signed with Impact in March of that year.

Laura’s all-time favorite NuGo bar is NuGo Dark Chocolate Pretzel, but her favorite while traveling is NuGo Slim Crunchy Peanut Butter. She explained her strugges with finding vegan food while traveling and how vegan NuGo bars help her.

“I travel a LOT, and I am not always able to find time to eat. I know that sounds crazy, but when you’re traveling, shooting television, wrestling, doing interviews, working out, etc., you sometimes forget to eat or simply don’t have time to stop and get food. It’s especially hard because I am vegan, and although vegan food is more accessible now, it’s still challenging to find vegan-friendly food at airports and gas stations. I always have NuGo bars in my gym bag, suitcase and purse. Seriously. They are my go to protein bar. On top of convenience, they taste great. Also, if I’m craving chocolate I grab the Dark Chocolate Pretzel bar, and it keeps my cravings in check.”

Outside of wrestling, Laura loves to travel. One of the perks of being a wrestler is getting to travel all over the world and see places that she might not have had the opportunity otherwise. She has wrestled in Japan, UK, India, Mexico, Canada, and all over the U.S.
